Singing is a Superpower

A few years ago, I was a chorus member in a local production of the musical ‘Heathers’. Before rehearsals I would sing along with a simple vocal warm up from youtube to make sure my voice could handle those high notes…

I noticed that I would arrive to rehearsals relaxed present, able to focus more easily and thankfully reach those high notes without damaging my voice. Since then, I regularly sing when I'm nervous or want to be more present.

Singing (or humming or whistling) is a super power for handling life’s stressors. Singing naturally regulates our breathing, calms our nervous system and brings our focus to the present.

Next time you find your mind or body a bit restless, sing or hum a catchy tune for a while and see what happens.
